They're gone!!!

Both JD Salinger and Howard Zinn, dead....? bummer! I jacked this from another blog, but thought it worth a re-post (love it...): “If history is to be creative, to anticipate a possible future without denying the past, it should, I believe, emphasize new possibilities by disclosing those hidden episodes of the past when, even if in brief flashes, people showed their ability to resist, to join together, occasionally to win. I am supposing, or perhaps only hoping, that our future may be found in the past’s fugitive movements of compassion rather than in its solid centuries of warfare.” —Howard Zinn, A People’s History of the United States

30th in Highland...

My 3oth B-Day Candles Andrea and Sylvie: Bedroom @ the Highland house... in progress. A vintage chemical photobooth we installed last week at a new location, The Charleston Pub, Chicago, IL: Michael is checking out the booth.... Farmscape: Highland, WI. Highland, WI sign: Entering the town. Andrea threw me a small, albeit great, 30th b-day party for me on Friday at our house in Oak Park. Afterwhich, we skipped town and headed up to Wisconsin... we went to Mineral Point, then to our "cottage" in Highland. After 3 days of no phone service and limited email, I was starting to get a little stir crazy. (At&t is the worst up there!!) The house is coming along well. We still have a lot of work to do before we can start deocrating, but we're making progress. We did some painting and worked out some of the floor finishes. The bathroom is almost done too! Our friend Sylvie just moved to Madison, WI for 6 months and she came out to meet us in Highland. She was our first guest

Andrea and I went to some local antique shops and as usual, I bought some photos. We went out for an early dinner and ended the night with desert and wine... followed by a movie at home. In all, it was relaxing. Unfortunately, Sadie died early that morning, which was a bit upsetting... It was surprising how fast that happened? I know it has, and is, especially difficult for my family right now. Day to Day: I've been working on a new booth install and getting our crew ready for my future "absence". So far, things are working out. Friday night we're having some people over. (Andrea is forcing me to have a party -so I guess, no working on Friday...). Then, this weekend, we'll head to our house in Highland, WI to do some work. Hopefully, the bathroom and ne

found photobooth photo - hand tinted The Grind: Last night was a late one, with multiple events… one at the Standard Club, which is a beautiful venue, but NOT fun for the installing of photobooths! It’s hard to get the equipment in, and of course, they’re very particular about things… Nevertheless, both events were a hit, flawless, and now done! In a few hours, off for yet more photobooth event madness! Day to Day: Sadie, my Step-Grandmother, is currently in the end stages of pancreatic cancer. This was quite sudden… with that said, everyone is very upset about the situation. At this point, it doesn’t look like there’s much to be done? For me, I often think so much about cancer, and my own fate / death, that I feel a little better prepared for this situation. But no matter how much you prepare, it’s hard to accept this fate for anyone. It’s especially difficult when it causes distress for those who you love… Right now, there’s little I can say or do, except to acknowledge the circum

Photobooth Repair Man

Image
It occured to me today just how many photobooth strips that I have (of myself!! - 1000+)... I service the booths, refurbish them, etc... And of course, every week I test the machines on our route. I have photostrips falling out of my ears. I'm wondering what to do with them all? Maybe a book, simply titled "Repair Man..." ??

@ the united center: bulls vs. pistons

Image
Small studio outing for a Bulls game... 5 blocks from the studio... I thought we should walk, but it's damn cold so we drove... Thanks to Paul for the tickets! Nice score! FYI: Put this into perspective: The United Center holds around 22k people. So, put about 5 full houses together, pull one person out, and that's about the ratio for Carcinoid / NET.

Tickets to Germany: Bad Berka

Image
A blurred landscape photos for no good reason... We have our tickets for Germany. -Flying into Frankfurt arriving the morning of February 6th. On the 7th, we take the train to Bad Berka. Scan on the 8th. If the scan looks ok, we will proceed with surgery in Omaha with Dr. Botha. But before heading back to the US, we'll take the train to Berlin, and fly out from there on the 13th. If the scan is not so great, i.e., too many tumors in the liver to operate of extensive disease, we will see if I can stay for PRRT treatment. I'm not sure if this is an option at this time with respect to scheduling in the hospital, etc.... I still need to work out some logistics... that is, how does my surgeon in Nebraska review the imaging from the scan? When will a report be completed? That's all for now...

Lillian R. -Polaroid Epitaphs

Lillian R. I cut him out of the picture… or maybe, he cut my heart out first? then, my brother cut me out… my family cut me out… or maybe, it was I who cut them all out? maybe is the bitch of history and my children were little paper dolls of stubborn-anger… after a while, the sequence mattered little and the fact was that I was alone with my frozen meats, tiny samples, coupons, letters of spite, and an empty home with a refrigerator full of so much garbage. It doesn’t matter if it were a stroke, or heart attack, or both, because no one was there to ask. cicero was not silent when I died.

Lillian was my grandfather’s sister, my mother’s aunt…and therefore, my great-aunt. With best intention, my mother recently sent me an old photo of Lil in a wedding dress, torn in half, without a groom. –black and white. In her mind, my mother was probably thinking… "wow, look at this old photo of Lil… you like old photos…and, well, you were somewhat close with Lil, so you should have this.” Of course, that gesture was great… I do like old photos, I did like Lil. I was legitimately surprised to see this torn modest artifact tucked inside a card. Under normal circumstances, I’d find something like this at countless flea markets, shops, etc… I’d relish in the fact that someone took the time to cut out their husband, yet, somehow couldn ’t manage to discard the photo of themself in a wedding dress? I’d find this ironic and write a little story about it. The story would be dry, or, tongue-in-cheek, yet “somewhat” close to the truth, because, as truth would have it, we’re not all th

lost & found photobooth

I was digging through some old files today and came across this photobooth montage from last year. It's fun, so thought I'd post it. Today was insanely busy with contracts, phone calls, and web design. We're overhauling all the web sites to streamline a bit... it's a little daunting. Got some blood work back today too... nothing abnormal, same old stuff.

Question & Answer...

A messed-up strip from one of my booths on route. I kind of like it... when the chemicals get old, they start to do weird, unpredictable things. The following is a question / answer via email between me and my surgical team at UNMC. First, I just want to say, that the staff at UNMC is absolutely awesome about answering my questions in a punctual manner. I have also forwarded them my questions for Dr. Baum in Germany, but they were not sure about my questions for Dr. Baum, with respect to the 68-GA scan. This is not surprising because it’s not offered here in the US. Nevertheless, it seems as though some doctors here in the US are becoming aware of the importance of the 68-GA scan and PRRT. It’s probably not a silver bullet for everyone, but has had some great results –at least from what I have learned from other. Letter to UNMC (To My Nurse Coordinator & Dr. Botha) From me: Dear (x), I have my appointment with Dr. Baum, but have some additional questions I've been trying to ha

Photo: We've finally started to get the ball rolling (at least on the web) for our new integrated photo studio ("312photo"). I'm building a dedicated page as well, but for now, check this one out. These are Paul's photos, and maybe even some of Michael's? We're going to be changing these images a bit in the next pass. I've also been doing some work over the last few days on the email and print collateral to get things moving along. The 312 blog has been much neglected, as well as our Facebook and Twitter accounts. There's much more to be done, but I'm excited about it. It makes sense, why can't we offer some "Zany" photography services along with our photobooths? Hence the "Outside the Box..." For those who don't get it, you know, out side the box, that is, the photobooth! More to follow on this venture in the future... I'm hoping somehow we can integrate more classic and alternate photographic mediums into th

Jay, Courtney & "Baby Lee" Yet another year has gone by. -too fast. Our friends from Los Angeles, Courtney and Jay, came out to visit with us over the New Year. ...and they brought their adorable little baby Lee. At just under 6 months, this little guy is awesome... and of course, my new best friend. It was nice to spend some real quality time with our friends, since we rarely get to see them. Unfortunately, we ended up all coming down with a NASTY stomach flu which really took us by storm. (Vomiting, fever, chills, stomach pains, & the works...). We sat around eating toast, sleeping, and watching bad Lifetime Network movies. In a funny way, it was actually an interesting bonding experience. When we felt a little better today, we grabbed a nice brunch and came back to the house for
